UNDESA
NEW YORK, 16 November 2009—Presented at the UNDESA Eighth Coordination Meeting on International Migration, this paper responds to the invitation to describe current and planned activities in the area of international migration and development. For policy work, ICMC’s Strategic Plan explicitly targets migration and development as one of ICMC’s top priorities for the coming years. At an international policy level, ICMC has actively participated in all of the processes related to the Global Forum on Migration and Development: within the UN High Level Dialogue in 2006 and the first two forums in 2007 and 8, as a civil society delegate, on formal advisory committees, as a session rapporteur, and on the writing team of each of the reports of civil society to the States at the opening of their two days of the Forum. At the 2008 Forum, ICMC was further chosen to prepare a background paper and speak on regional consultative processes within session 3.3 of the civil society programme. In addition, ICMC participated actively in the first Forum’s on-line consultation and in the editing of a number of background papers prepared for both the civil society and States programmes of the two forums. Parallel to the official civil society programmes, ICMC was directly involved in the planning and organisation of parallel civil society events held in Brussels and Manila.
