More than 6,700 Iraqi and some 500 Sudanese refugees registered with UNHCR live in Lebanon. There is no legal framework for refugees in Lebanon, Refugees cannot legally reside in Lebanon, which has not ratified the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees; subsequently, many refugees are illegally residing in the country . While studying law in Sydney, Ben began volunteering with immigration detention centres and saw first hand the enormous challenges that refugees face upon arrival in Australia.
