ICMC-UNHCR Resettlement Deployment Scheme
Since 1998, the ICMC-UNHCR Resettlement Deployment Scheme has offered the opportunity for skilled professionals from a variety of backgrounds to work directly in refugee protection operations in the field. Today, the roster of qualified deployees has grown to include more than 200 resettlement professionals from over 30 countries and from diverse backgrounds ranging from the private sector, to government and NGO. These expert deployees provide temporary support to UNHCR offices throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East in identifying and referring refugees for resettlement. ICMC Resettlement Deployee Among the Asylum SeekersRefugees arrive at our offices early. Often a line starts forming by 5:30 a.m. There are Sudanese men with the parallel scars of manhood etched on their foreheads, Ethiopian women draped in white scarves, and Somalis floating by in their red and black hijabs trailing the scent of eucalyptus in their wake.
