A joint IOM, UNHCR and ICMC project: Linking in EU Resettlement![]() BRUSELS, 16 December 2011—A second IOM UNHCR ICMC project to further strengthen expertise in resettlement in Europe - under the name "Linking in EU Resettlement" - started in September 2011 and will run until the end of 2012. The project covers all phases of the resettlement process, particularly networking in the reception and integration of resettled refugees. The project has just issued the first newsletter< to report on European Union developments in resettlement. It is envisaged that the newsletter will be published on a three monthly basis."We are excited to further continue the networking in resettlement among policy makers and practitioners in Europe," states ICMC Europe's Head of office Petra Hueck. The first issue focuses on the situation in North Africa and the urgent need to increase resettlement of refugees from Libya, especially inviting the EU member states to urgently deploy increased support and solidarity. It also informs on the recent decision in Germany to start a three year resettlement programme of 300 places annually. We hope that the programme will become more significant and that Germany will become a steady player in EU resettlement. In 2009 Germany resettled 2.501 refugees from Iraq in one year.
