Encyclical letter of Pope Benedict XVI
VATICAN, 7 July 2009—The Vatican released today Pope Benedict XVI’s Encyclical Caritas in Veritate, focussing on the human development in charity and truth. The new encyclical embeds the migration issue in the request for a fundamental change in mentality, calling for a rights-based approach and inviting all to reconsider the link between justice, truth and charity. The Pope argues that charity is at the heart of the Church’s social doctrine where every responsibility and every commitment spelt out by that doctrine is derived from love. ICMC is pleased to read how Caritas in Veritate, in a visionary way, strongly invites us to think differently, inviting us to contribute to building another, more global and human, world. Indeed, it is not about immediate solutions, but rather about a road towards better humanity.
