20 bodies recovered as search for migrants continues

Harb drafts laws to protect domestic workers

BEIRUT, 11 February 2011 (Daily Star<)—The “first step” in bringing order to the domestic worker sector was unveiled Thursday by caretaker Labor Minister Butros Harb, in the form of a draft law that would compel employers to pay their employees on time every month, give them a weekly day off, and ensure they live in decent conditions.

Eight asylum-seekers suffocate in Mozambique en route to South Africa

GENEVA, 8 February 2011 (UNHCR<)—Over the weekend, UNHCR learned of the deaths by suffocation on 2 February of eight Ethiopian asylum-seekers aboard a closed container truck in Mozambique. Police say the eight were among a group of 26 young Ethiopian men who were trying to reach South Africa from the Maratane refugee camp in northern Mozambique.Read more<
