The majority of ICMC deployees are engaged in casework whereby they interview refugees, collect information on their cases and families and assess whether individuals are eligible for resettlement, based on pre-determined criteria. In addition, experts with specialized skills conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIDS) for children, advocate for the protection of refugee women and families, and conduct refugee status determination interviews.
The following information describes the skills and experience required of deployees in order to allow you to determine your eligibility for this type of work.
DEPLOYEE PROFILE: Resettlement Generalist

- Minimum of two years professional experience in relevant work area (e.g. assisting
refugees in a resettlement context, identifying resettlement needs, preparing resettlement referrals/submissions, etc.)
- Excellent interviewing and counseling skills;
- Excellent writing and analytical skills;
- University degree in relevant area (preferable in international law/refugee law,
human rights or social work);
- Knowledge of the international legal framework governing refugees, asylum
seekers, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and stateless individuals
- Fluency in English;
- Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills; ability to work effectively in teams;
- Ability to conduct assessments and identify protection risks of individuals and groups;
- Ability to work in stressful situations and in hardship locations;
- Commitment to refugees, flexibility, willingness to work within the context of
UNHCR rules and procedures;
- Experience in giving advice on resettlement guidelines/policy – highly desirable;
- Awareness of gender issues and how to apply rights and community-based approaches
to respond to specific needs - highly desirable;
- Knowledge of an additional language (French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian) – highly
desirable.

In addition to the overall roster, ICMC maintains three sub-rosters comprised of resettlement personnel with specialized training as listed below. Individuals with a minimum of two years expertise in the following areas of specialization are encouraged to apply:

Conduct interviews in order to determine, in accordance with inter- national conventions, the status of refugees.

Determine, in accordance with the UNHCR Best Interest Guidelines, the protection and durable solution needs of sep- arated or unaccompanied children.

Advocate for the protection of refugee women and families and work to ensure that UNHCR's age and gender mainstreaming strategy is streamlined into the Agency’s work.

Requirements: Prior experience conducting refugee status determinations/ exclusion assessments, preparing resettlement submissions for prima- facie refugee population.

Requirements:
Prior experience in community services, social work/ counseling, family law, child pro- tection/ welfare and best interest determi- nations.
|
Requirements:
Knowledge of specific protection risks such as Sexual & Gender-based Violence. Prior experience in community services, social work/counseling, advocacy for women's rights, family law, gender issues and/or the protection or refugee women and girls.

Conditions
New roster members must ensure their availability for a minimum deployment of six months. Candidates are deployed under an ICMC employment contract and are not considered to be UNHCR staff.
Compensation includes a competitive NGO salary and benefits package, including health insurance, annual leave, and travel to and from the duty station.
