Hazel Williams appointed ICMC Resettlement Coordinator

BRUSSELS, 1 February 2010—The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is pleased to welcome Ms. Hazel Williams to the ICMC Europe office in Brussels, Belgium as Resettlement Coordinator, where she will work in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to strengthen the engagement of European Union Member States in refugee resettlement.

Hazel brings to ICMC Europe more than seven years’ experience working with refugees and asylum seekers, having worked most recently as Resettlement Operations Manager with the British Refugee Council and as a Caseworker with Refugee Action. She holds a law degree from Leeds University and is a trustee of Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (PAFRAS).

As ICMC European Resettlement Coordinator, and together with project partners, Hazel will lead work on the reception and integration of resettled refugees through the coordination of training programmes, a good practices user manual and national meetings of resettlement stakeholders. The new fifteen-month project is financed by the European Commission and is jointly implemented by ICMC, IOM and UNHCR. Participating countries include Belgium, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the United Kingdom, Slovakia and Sweden.
