ICMC contributes to High level meeting on resettlement of Syrian refugees

BRUSSELS, 26 June 2014 (ICMC) - As States gather tomorrow in Geneva to discuss resettlement and other forms of admission to ensure safe access for refugees fleeing the war in Syria, ICMC, and NGOs across Europe call for increased commitments to admit more refugees and recalls that NGOs stand ready to support the reception of refugees in Europe.

At the High-Level meeting on resettlement of Syrian refugees hosted by UNHCR, States will have the opportunity to announce further resettlement and humanitarian admission programmes for Syrian refugees. UNHCR has set the target of providing resettlement and other forms of admission for 100,000 Syrian refugees in 2015 – 2016.Read more<

Brussels, 11 June 2014 (ICMC Europe) - In many European cities and municipalities, housing for migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable and low income groups is becoming increasingly difficult to find. For humanitarian programmes such as resettlement, which involves transferring a refugee from a country of first asylum to a European country, a lack of appropriate housing is increasingly highlighted as a factor affecting countries' readiness to receive refugees, for whom resettlement is often a lifesaving solution.Read more<

Making "MADE": a migration and development network that links civil society all around the world

BRUSSELS, 14 March 2014 (ICMC) - It is always thrilling to start a new project, and even more so when that entails deepening collaboration with partners from all over the world. For ICMC and other civil society organizations working within ICMC’s new Migration And DEvelopment network, in short, “MADE”, much of the excitement comes from the opportunity to more consistently partner with and complement existing civil society groups. 

With co-funding from the European Commission, ICMC Europe opened up a new office for these purposes in Brussels in January 2014.

Taking the lead is MADE Program Coordinator Wies Maas, who has worked with ICMC as senior programme manager on migration and development since 2011 in both Geneva and in New York.Read more<

Launching a EU Resettlement Network at Skills Share Day

BRUSSELS, 14 May 2012—On 14-15 May in Brussels, ICMC Europe and its partners the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) staged the first ever EU Resettlement Skills Share Day. Facilitated in the framework of the joint project “Linking in EU Resettlement”, the EU Resettlement Skills Share Day brought together approximately 200 participants from 26 countries - including EU officials, governments, NGOs, local authorities , resettled refugees and the media to share learning, exchange best practice and build resettlement knowledge and capacity across Europe.Read more<
